I just noticed that Akismet has caught 48,903 spam comments on TiVoBlog.com. 48,903 is nothing compared to what TechCrunch is up against however, it still is a pretty big number.
I remember back in the days when there really wasn’t a good spam blocking plugin out there. Now with Akismet, I’ve come the conclusion that there truly isn’t a need for anything else. I’ve only had a couple of instances where Aksimet didn’t block a spam message.

For the past couple of weeks TiVoBlog.com has been getting hammered with comment spam. Most of the comments are being caught by Akismet however, some are getting through. Here’s what I see when I go to my Akismet spam management page.

Update: In the time it took me to write this post (probably 2 minutes) I received 10 comment spams!
Update 2: I’ve decided to take Lorelle’s advice and install Bad Behaviorr on TiVoBlog. I had installed it once before however, I uninstalled it because people were saying that they were being denied access to the site. I’m going to try it again simply because it is a pain in the a$$ to have to screw around with all this spam….. Hopefully nobody will be wrongfully denied access to the site

I just cleared out 59 spam comments from my Akismet queue on TiVoBlog.com. It’s so nice to have a comment spam plugin installed. I remember when I use to run WordPress 1.2 without a comment spam plugin. I use to have to come home each day and remove 10-20 comments because they were spam! Long live WordPress comment spam plugins!
